Impact

QUENCH represents a significant step towards developing commercially viable quantum technologies in Europe. Crucially, the developments made in this project will be broadly applicable to numerous quantum technologies, ranging from quantum sensing to quantum computers. Therefore, this project positively impacts the entire European quantum technologies ecosystems. Each development step with contribute to the value chain:

  • Microwave electronics development. Our microwave resonator development, rooted in the TECHNION group of Prof. Blank, will provide high-quality microwave resonators and cavities crucial for the efficient and coherent manipulation of NV centers in diamonds. This sub-component will add value to the European quantum technologies industry by providing highly efficient and precise microwave electronics that realize sensitive quantum sensors and quantum computers for diverse applications.
  • Diamond development. The diamond development, rooted in the FRAUNHOFER group of Dr. Knittel, will provide high-quality synthetic diamonds essential for NV center-based technologies. These diamonds will create sensitive and stable quantum sensors but have equally widespread quantum communication and computation applications. Thus, this sub-component will add value to the European diamond industry by creating new opportunities to use synthetic diamonds in quantum applications.
  • Readout development. The quantum logic enhanced readout development, led by TUM, will provide highly sensitive and efficient readout techniques for NV center-based quantum sensors. This sub-component will add value to the European quantum sensing industry by providing highly sensitive and efficient readout techniques for numerous applications, including biotech, medicine, and chemistry.
  • Pulse sequence development. The pulse sequence development, led by UPV/EHU, will provide novel quantum control sequences essential for the efficient and coherent manipulation of NV centers in diamonds. This sub-component will add value to the European quantum industry by providing highly efficient and precise control sequences for diverse applications, including quantum computing, sensing, and communication.
  • Magnet development. The magnet development at MAGRITEK will provide high-homogeneity magnets essential for NMR applications. This sub-component will add value to the European NMR industry by providing highly efficient and precise magnets for various applications, including medical imaging, biomolecular structure determination, and materials science.

Our joint project will significantly impact the European quantum technologies ecosystem. The successful completion of this project will contribute to the development of commercially viable quantum technologies in Europe, with a positive impact on the European economy and society. Furthermore, this project will create new opportunities for the European quantum technologies industry and pave the way for future research and development.
